Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine: A Novel

'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' is a story filled with love and humour, written by Gail Honeyman. It is a story of a twenty something girl finding herself at odds with the world. She has a job, a home and a timetable meticulously planned to the minutest detail. She knows exactly what pizza she wants and what brand of vodka she'll drink.

This book takes you on a journey into the mind of an introvert who has locked herself up to the outside world. Eleanor doesn't care about the people's judgements. She has her own way of looking at things. It all seems fine until she meets Raymond, an IT guy working at her office.

This is a book that has the power to keep you hooked, I think every twenty-something person will be able to relate to her at some level or would have met someone like her. There are moments when you laugh at the sheer innocence of our protagonist, Eleanor. She is an embodiment of utter joy despite of all the sadness her heart holds inside.

Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine until she meets Raymond, an IT guy working at her office. The author has beautifully portrayed the difference in perspectives of Eleanor and Raymond. Raymond is no hero, he's a regular guy with bad habits that annoy Eleanor. Raymond provides a fresh perspective to Eleanor's life and gives courage to her in times of need. The theme of friendship and the power it holds is amazingly captured by the author to the very essence. At one point the protagonist goes on to say that,

"Sometimes you simply needed someone kind to sit with you while you dealt with things."

This book deals with some difficult issues like mental health in a way that pushes one to question the patterns we weave around us and the power we let the past have on us. It is a story that takes one on the journey in and out of the mind of a person suffering from the incidents of the past.

It is a book that shows one the way, a positive read which leaves one smiling at the amazing life Eleanor has lead. In the words of Eleanor herself,

"In the end, what matters is this: I survived."

It leaves one with the kind of hope and faith which is needed in order to get through the troubled times we all are facing right now. This one should not be missed.
